Barbara is situated on a hill at 219 meters on the sea level, on the ridge separating the two valleys where, among vineyards and olive groves, the Misa and Nevola rivers flow. The first certificate of the toponym Barbara, to be connected with the settlement of a Lombard outpost, can be dated back to 1186. The territory of Barbara has not yet returned prehistoric age urban areas, even if its valleys have been surely visited since the oldest time as natural communication channels between the coast and the Appenines. For the Roman age there are on the contrary, evidences of a regular territory occupation, with urban planning.
