Located at 412 meters on the sea level, Maiolati Spontini dominates the right side of Esino river: it is 15 Km far from Jesi and 35 from Ancona. Maiolati (some time ago Majolati) probably derives from Meliorata, that would mean something better to build at the place of the villa of Talliano, situated lower. The toponym throughout the centuries has undergone different changes: a variation is registered in the Descriptio Marchiae of ‘300 where the place is called Magolati. In 1939, as a sign of gratitude towards the great composer Gaspare Spontini, his name was added to the one of the Town Council and has become Maiolati Spontini.
