Filottrano is situated on a hill at 270 meters on the sea level between the Musone river and the Fiumicello stream. Not so much is known about the origins of the town, even if, thanks to the presence of a lot of archaeological finds it is sure that the territory has been inhabited since the III millennium b.C. The economy of Filottrano, since the beginning, has been based on agriculture; afterwards, the first activities linked to handicraft started to develop such as tailors, blacksmiths, shoemakers. The most important building of Filottrano is the Municipal palace that, going back to the XIV century, was restructured in 1500.
